Vishay's new surface-mount Power Metal Strip resistors save system space and improve system efficiency

Vishay Intertechnology has announced the release of its new surface-mount Power Metal Strip galvanometer resistor, WSKW0612, with an increased power class of 1.0W and a small 0612 form factor. To improve measurement accuracy, the Vishay Dale WSKW0612 uses a welded copper joint construction and a Kelvin 4 joint connection, reducing the TCR to 75ppm

     Vishay Intertechnology has announced the release of its new surface-mount Power Metal Strip galvanometer resistor, WSKW0612, with an increased power class of 1.0W and a small 0612 form factor. To improve measurement accuracy, the Vishay Dale WSKW0612 uses a welded copper joint construction and a Kelvin 4 joint connection, reducing the TCR to 75ppm. The resistance of the device is as low as 0.001Ω, which minimizes excess power dissipation and effectively improves the efficiency of the end product.

     This resistor has four times the power of the 1206 standard size, helping designers save board space and use fewer and smaller components, thereby reducing costs. The WSKW0612's welded joints reduce joint resistance, enabling higher accuracy than copper-clad or electroplated joints, and the 4-joint connection has the advantage of low TCR, making the system measurement error smaller than typical 2-joint devices.

     The device's advanced architecture includes a low TCR(< 20ppm/℃) solid Metal nickel chromium and manganese copper resistance core, so that the resistance has the characteristics of pulse resistance, small tolerance, to maintain the excellent electrical characteristics of the Power Metal Strip structure. The device uses Vishay's exclusive machining process with extremely low resistance values from 0.001Ω to 0.003Ω, tolerances of ±1.0% and ±5.0%, thermal EMF less than 3μV/ C, and temperature ranges from -65 ° C to +170 ° C.

     The WSKW0612 is ideal for a variety of galvanic and pulse applications in mobile phone power management, DC/DC converters for servers, VRMS for laptop computers, safety and management of lithium-ion batteries, inverters for industrial instrumentation and air conditioning, automotive electronic controls such as engines, transmissions, anti-lock brakes, audio and climate control. Devices comply with RoHS and Vishay green standards and are halogen-free.
