Vishay Intertechnology has announced the introduction of the TCNT2000, a reflected light sensor in a small SMD package with a transistor output. The device has dimensions of 3.4mm x 2.7mm x 1.5mm and a detection range of 0.2mm to 5mm, and can be used in consumer, industrial and computer applications.

     Vishay Intertechnology has announced the introduction of the TCNT2000, a reflected light sensor in a small SMD package with a transistor output. The device has dimensions of 3.4mm x 2.7mm x 1.5mm and a detection range of 0.2mm to 5mm, and can be used in consumer, industrial and computer applications.

     The TCNT2000 uses Vishay's efficient 940nm transmitter chip with a typical CTR of 4%, more than twice that of comparable devices. With high CTR, devices enable designers to increase detection range or drive devices with lower currents, reducing power consumption without losing performance.

     The compact structure of the TCNT2000 allows both the light source and the silicon phototransistor detector to be placed on the same plane. The sensor's analog output signal is triggered when infrared light reflected from an object at a distance of 0.2mm to 5mm(within 20% of the peak collector current) is detected. The TCNT2000 features a built-in daylight-blocking filter to greatly suppress noisy ambient light and improve the signal-to-noise ratio, while maintaining maximum spectral sensitivity for signals at 940nm wavelength.

     The TCNT2000 is designed for optical coding and switching in industrial instrumentation systems, computer disk drives, and consumer devices such as DVD players. In addition, the device can be used as a precise position sensor for shaft encoders for office equipment such as copiers, printers and fax machines.

     The typical output current of the TCNT2000 in the test is 0.8mA, and the operating temperature of the sensor is -40℃ ~ + 85℃, and lead-free reflow welding as specified in J-STD-020 can be adopted. Devices comply with the RoHS directive.
