Vishay introduces new proximity and ambient light sensors with a detection range of up to 1 meter

     Vishay Intertechnology has announced the release of its new highly sensitive proximity and ambient light sensor, the VCNL4100, from the Optoelectronics division with a detection range of up to 1 meter. Featuring Filtron™ technology and a small 8mm x 3mm x 1.8mm surface mount package, the Vishay Semiconductors VCNL4100 combines high-power infrared emitters, light detectors for proximity and ambient light, signal processing ics and 8-bit / 16-bit ADCs. This 3-in-1 sensor has interrupt function and supports I2C bus communication interface for smart home, industrial and office equipment.

     The detection range of the VCNL4100 is five times higher than the previous generation of devices, can be used in printers, copiers and household appliances, and activates the display when an object is detected; Collision prevention for toys and robots, control of lighting in offices, corridors and public buildings, activation of bathroom appliances, detection of occupancy in parking lots. Sensors integrate the circuits needed for these applications into a single device, requiring no additional grating or alignment of the infrared emitter and photodiode. The device's small form factor helps save space and also gives engineers more flexibility to design where and how sensors are placed.

     The ambient light and proximity sensors of the VCNL4100 operate in a parallel structure, with each sensor having a programmable interrupt function that reduces power consumption through high and low thresholds. The Filtron technology of the device realizes the spectral sensitivity of ambient light close to the human eye, and has a good ability to eliminate background light.

     The VCNL4100's built-in ambient photodiode has a detection range from 0.01lx to 5.2klx, enabling the device to operate in applications designed with black or high transparency lenses. The sensor with the 16-bit ADC is not affected by the flicker of the fluorescent lamp and has good temperature compensation in the range of -40 ° C to +85 ° C. The VCNL4100's 8-bit proximity sensor uses intelligent cancellation technology to eliminate crosstalk, while the smart persistence design ensures accurate detection and faster response times. The transmitter has a peak wavelength of 940nm, with no visible "red tail".

     The supply voltage of the device is 2.5V ~ 3.6V, and the I2C bus voltage is 1.8V ~ 3.6V. The sensor comes in a lead-free 10-pin molded package that complies with RoHS and Vishay green standards and is halogen-free.
