Vishay introduces OPS-4 auto-grade photovoltaic MOSFET driver with integrated turn-off circuit in small package
Vishay Intertechnology has announced the launch of VOMDA1271, a new industry-leading automotive-grade photovoltaic MOSFET driver in a space-saving SOP-4 package with integrated turn-off circuits. The Vishay Semiconductors VOMDA1271 is designed to improve performance in automotive applications while increasing design flexibility and reducing costs, with industry-leading switching speeds and open-circuit output voltages.
The optocoupler-integrated turn-off circuit, with a typical turn-off time of 0.7ms, is advanced in the OPS-4 small package MOSFET driver. In addition, the VOMDA127 has a turn-on time of 0.05ms, which is twice as fast as its nearest competitor, and is an excellent driver in this package specification, with isolation voltage and typical open circuit output voltage of 3750V and 8.5V respectively, suitable for a variety of MOSFET driver applications.
The device is AEC-Q102 certified for pre-charging circuits, wall-mounted chargers, and electric (EV) and hybrid (HEV) automotive battery management systems (BMS). To generate the higher voltage that drives the IGBT and SiC MOSFETs in these applications, two VOMDA1271 optocouplings can be used in series. In addition, with this new driver, designers can replace traditional electromechanical relays with custom solid-state relays when developing the next generation of vehicles.
The light-isolated VOMDA1271 uses an AIGaAs infrared LED (IRLED) whose emitted light is absorbed by a photovoltaic gate array to produce a MOSFET on-voltage. This structure does not require an external power supply, thus simplifying the design and reducing costs. The device can be driven by the GPIO pin of the microcontroller, further increasing design flexibility. The new optocoupler complies with RoHS and Vishay green standards and is halogen-free.
