Transphorm partners with Allegro MicroSystems to improve gallium nitride power system performance for high-power applications

     Transphorm, Inc., a leading global supplier of gallium nitride (GaN) power semiconductors (Nasdaq: (TGAN) announced a partnership with Allegro MicroSystems, Inc. (Allegro), a global leader in power and sensing semiconductor technology for motion control and energy efficiency systems. ALGM partnered with Transphorm's SuperGaN field-effect transistor and Allegro's AHV85110 isolated gate driver to expand gallium nitride power system designs for high-power applications.

     Transphorm's SuperGaN FETs can be used in a variety of topologies and are available in a variety of package forms, supporting a wide range of power levels to meet different end-market application requirements. SuperGaN FETs are used in a variety of commercial products and significantly improve reliability, power density and efficiency in high-power systems.

     Allegro's self-powered single-channel isolated gate driver ics are optimized for driving gallium nitride field-effect transistors in a variety of applications and circuits. The AHV85110 has been proven to increase drive efficiency by 50% compared to similar gate drivers from Friends. Compared to other solutions on the market, this unique solution greatly simplifies system design, reducing circuit interference by a factor of 10 and common mode capacitance by a factor of 15.

     Tushar Dhayagude, Transphorm's vice president of global sales and field applications, said: "Allegro's AHV85110 high voltage gate drive provides a highly compact and efficient power supply solution that requires minimal configuration of external circuit components and bias power supplies for Transphorm power devices, thereby reducing board area by approximately 30%. "Coupled with SuperGaN's extremely high reliability and superior dynamic switching performance over competing technologies, this will ultimately deliver more efficient, robust and power-dense solutions for critical applications such as servers, data centers, renewable energy and electric vehicles."

     Interested users can test Transphorm and Allegro's collaborative solution with Allegro's APEK85110KNH-06-T evaluation board. The board integrates the AHV85110 driver for different applications and Transphorm's three recently released TOLL package devices with on-resistance of 35, 50 and 72 milliohm.
