The new IDC splice connector replaces traditional crimp and soldered devices
Kyocera AVX offers the new 917.9-000 series IDC splicing connectors, whose functional design makes them an attractive alternative to traditional splicing solutions. The new series uses insulated displacement contact (IDC) technology that is more efficient, economical, robust, reliable and durable than traditional hand-pressed and hand-welded connection technologies. IDC connectors do not require the user to strip the cable in front of the terminal, and the terminal can be completed quickly and easily without any special tools, saving time and money. They are built with cold-welded, airtight connections and have been tested and proven to withstand ordinary levels of shock, vibration and temperature cycling.
Ideal applications for the new 917.9-000 series IDC splicing connectors include a wide range of electronic systems and devices in the industrial, lighting, consumer, automotive, and oil and gas industries. The series is also compatible with potting processes, which increase their resistance to shock vibration, moisture, corrosives and aging, virtually eliminating the maintenance and repair needs and costs associated with conventional joints.
Another advantage of the series is flexibility. These connectors have a compact form factor that can accommodate Spaces that competing solutions cannot. When terminated, the dimensions are 8mm x 7.8mm x 7.2mm. They also accept solid and twisted wires, support a hybrid combination of 18-24AWG wire gauges for easy field installation, and allow wires to be inserted from one or both sides, unlike competing inline solutions.
The series is rated at 13A per contact, 300VACRMS or DC equivalent, and operates at temperatures from -40 ° C to +125 ° C. They feature a white UL94 V-0 glass-filled thermoplastic housing, a top etched wire inlet diameter, lead-free, tinned nickel plated phosphate-bronze contacts, and a top etched wire gauge measuring housing cap and colors corresponding to various wire gauge combinations.
Perrin Hardee, Product Marketing Department, said: "We developed the new 917.9-000 series IDC Splicing connectors to help customers in the industrial, lighting, consumer, automotive, and oil and gas industries achieve splicing connections that are more flexible, efficient, economical, robust, reliable, and durable than traditional hand-rolled and hand-welded splicing connectors. This is especially true when exposed to hazardous environments including shock, vibration and temperature cycling.
Manager of Kyocera AVX Corporation. "Its small size, ease of use, rugged, high-reliability IDC contacts, unique in-line and same-side design wire insertion design, excellent wire holding strength, high temperature resistance, electrical grade, and compatibility with potting processes make it ideal for a variety of applications in a variety of industries."
