TT Electronics introduces EBW5216 busbar shunt resistor
TT Electronics, a global supplier of engineered electronics for performance-critical applications, now offers EBW5216 series shunt resistors for high current measurements in the hundreds of amperes range. With a wide temperature range of -65 to +170°C and AEC-Q200 certification, the EBW5216 series is particularly suitable for a variety of industrial and power management applications, including welding power supplies, motor drives, battery management, power metering and process control. Based on TT company's expertise in electrofluidometer resistor, EBW5216 series products are designed to meet the demanding accuracy requirements. The compact structure of the product is a complement to EBW8518 products, can be installed on the bus 5216 size.
EBW5216 is an electron-beam welded resistance element sandwiched between large (optionally tinned) copper terminals. The series provides resistance values of 50 and 100µΩ with tolerances as low as 1% and features TCR (measured) at 150ppm/°C, TCR (resistance alloy) at 20ppm/°C, and thermoelectric motive force <1µV/°C. The EBW5216 product's ultra-low ohm value reduces power loss, while its low spontaneous heat characteristic reduces equipment temperature, thus improving reliability.
"The electron beam welded shunt resistor EBW5216, with four terminal contacts, is the latest addition to TT's growing family of electrofluometric resistor products, having been certified AEC-Q200. The product's low measurement error reduces the designer's error budget -- its compact size enables customers to achieve accurate and surge proof current measurements in bus-connected components, "said Nick Atkinson, senior product line manager, TT Electronics.
Similar to Vishay's WSBS5216 product, the EBW5216 series is a stable shunt with a choice of pressed pin terminals at voltage sensing points and a through hole connection to a printed circuit board (PCB). The optional through-hole voltage sensing terminal allows for improved accuracy and complete separation of current path and voltage sensing. With a short-term load rating of 75W within 5 seconds and a surge capacity of up to 120J, the product can withstand high or on-off surges.
