TE Connectivity, a global leader in connectivity and sensing, has introduced a new generation of high-voltage contactors in China, the EVC 250 Main contactor (" EVC 250 "), designed for hybrid, pure electric and fuel cell vehicle applications, as well as for a variety of vehicle charging systems. With a non-pressurized contactor design that is non-inflatable and has high contact forces, its innovative design and reliable performance help further enhance the safety and stability of hybrid and pure electric vehicles.

     Like the fuel tanks of conventional cars, the energy storage systems of hybrid and pure electric vehicles must be protected against thermal overload. In order to block the current in time after the vehicle is turned off or fails, a combination of high voltage fuses and high voltage contactors is usually used in the connecting part of the power battery and electrical circuit. The EVC 250 is a safety device specifically developed for this application requirement, which, together with the fuse, takes on the task of thermal overload of the battery and ensures the separation of the drive system after each driving cycle under normal operating conditions

     The new EVC 250 main contactor features a larger contact gap and optimized switching power. It has a high performance arc extinguishing magnet, combined with other measures, can effectively suppress the switching arc. The contactor can achieve A continuous current rating of 250A and can carry overcurrents up to 6,000A for 20ms without compromising any critical performance. Excessive overcurrent may limit the switching function but does not cause any dangerous conditions.

     The EVC 250's switching chamber is optimised to completely cut off the current even at low pressure conditions up to 5,000 metres above sea level. In addition, because the EVC 250 is non-inflatable, there is no need to repair and replace it due to pressure loss or air leakage. And when the current greatly exceeds the current limit, the excess pressure can be released without damaging the shell, greatly reducing the possibility of explosive damage to the component.

     The innovative design of the EVC 250 achieves a compact size of 93 x 55.3 x 49.8mm, enabling fully automated production. In the EVC 250 standard edition, the coils used for suction and holding are separated and an automatic switch is placed inside; Another version uses a single coil to implement pulse width modulation (PWM). In addition, the EVC 250 meets IEC 60664 insulation requirements.
