Semtech and ST have joined forces to promote LoRa technology to meet the needs of large-scale iot applications

     Semtech Corporation and STMicroelectronics, a leading global semiconductor supplier across multiple electronics applications, announced the signing of the Semtech LoRa remote radio frequency technology co-development agreement. With this technology, ST expects to accelerate the deployment of iot applications by mobile network operators (Mnos) and private enterprises.

     STMicroelectronics will join the Low Power Radio Alliance (LoRa Alliance) and publish a LoRa technical reference design based on the STM32 microcontroller. St plans to develop microcontrollers with built-in LoRa technology that can support the LoRaWAN standardized protocol. Semtech and ST will collaborate on several LORA-centric commercial development projects and integrate LoRa technology across multiple product platforms to meet the diverse needs of related applications.

     The Low Power Radio Alliance and its LoRa development ecosystem are the fastest growing industry partnerships in the Internet of Things, The addition of STMicroelectronics will help LoRa and LoRaWAN technology become the global standard technology for the Internet of Things low-power wide-area network (LPWAN). Semtech and ST believe that a robust ecosystem of standardization will help drive technology adoption to achieve the scale of iot predicted by the industry.
