Samsung High performance PC solid state drive

     Samsung has announced production readiness for high-performance PCIe 4.0 NVMe SSD (solid state drive) PM9C1a. The PM9C1a is a new memory product based on Samsung's 5 nanometer (nm) high-end technology and seventh generation V-NAND technology, which will significantly improve the computing and gaming performance of PCS and laptops. The Samsung PM9C1a SSD will be available in a variety of capacity options including 256GB, 512GB, 1TB and 2TB in the M.2 (22mm x 30mm, 22mm x 42mm, 22mm x 80mm).

     With excellent processing speed, PM9C1a SSD not only meets the needs of daily use, but also for computing and gaming applications with higher requirements for the ideal choice. Taking full advantage of the PCIe 4.0 interface, Samsung's PM9C1a has 1.6 times faster sequential read speed and 1.8 times faster sequential write speed compared to its predecessor PM9B1, with test values up to 6000MB/s and 5600MB/s, respectively. Random read/write speed up to 900K IOPS (input/output per second) and 1000K IOPS, respectively.

     To meet the growing demand for security, the Samsung PM9C1a is equipped with robust security. This solid-state drive supports the DICE (Device Identity Composition Engine) security standard developed by the Trusted Computing Group (TCG). TCG is a global organization that develops open standards for computing security. DICE generates encryption keys inside SSDS, provides device identity authentication to prevent supply chain attacks (cyber attacks against companies through vulnerabilities in supplier networks), and authentication to prevent any firmware tampering.

     Notably, the PM9C1a is 70% more energy efficient than its predecessor, which means the new SSD requires significantly less energy to handle the same number of tasks. In addition, the SSD's power consumption is reduced by about 10% when the laptop is in standby mode."The PM9C1a combines superior performance, high energy efficiency and strong security that customers love," said Yong Ho Song, Executive Vice President of Samsung Electronics' Memory Business.
