STMicroelectronics introduces ultra-compact piezoresistive absolute pressure sensor

The stmicroelectronics ILPS28QSW is an ultra-compact piezoresistive absolute pressure sensor that functions as a digital output barometer with dual range support up to a user optional 4060 hPa. The device includes a sensing element and an IC interface that communicates from the sensing element to the application through either an I²C or MIPI I³C® interface.

The ILPS28QSW comes in a ceramic LGA package with a metal lid. It is guaranteed to operate in the temperature range from -40°C to +105°C. The package has holes to allow external pressure to reach the sensing element. The gel inside the IC protects the electronic components from water, and the metal cap optionally connects to the ground or stays afloat in the application PCB layout. The connection of the metal cap is determined according to the target application of the customer.

It also provides lower power consumption and achieves lower pressure noise than its predecessor. The ILPS28QSW is embedded with analog hub sensing capabilities to connect analog inputs and convert them into digital signals for embedded processing. In addition, you can enable embedded Qvar(charge Change detection) channels for sensing in applications such as water leak detection, faucet, double tap, long press, and L/ R-R /L slide.
