STMicroelectronics announces the most integrated 77GHz radar transceiver chip for emerging automotive remote detection applications
Spanning multiple electronic applications, STMicroelectronics, the world's leading semiconductor supplier and the world's largest supplier of radar detection chips for automotive ADAS(Advanced Driver Assistance Systems) near - and medium-range (24GHz) radar detection chips, has now begun offering its latest long-range (77GHz) radar detection chips to major automotive customers.
The 24GHz system is the first in-vehicle radar to enable affordable near - and medium-range intelligent driving features such as blind spot detection, collision avoidance and lane departure warning. With more than 35 million 24GHz radar transceiver chips shipped today, ST's customer base is expanding as more and more markets demand ADAS-equipped vehicles.
Today's most mature automotive markets are about to embrace the next generation of intelligent driving features, where high-speed adaptive cruise control requires long-range, preferably 77GHz radar systems. High frequency radar technology can reduce the antenna size, allowing ADAS requiring near -, medium - and long-range radar to share the same technology, thereby simplifying system design and speeding up the product to market process.
STMicroelectronics builds on its success in the 24GHz radar market to develop a new high-performance, highly integrated 77GHz transceiver. With three 77GHz transmitters and four receivers on a single chip, the chip offers a higher level of integration than other solutions available on the market today, allowing customers to develop more compact, less costly and simpler radar systems with a multi-channel architecture that improves target recognition and resolution for optimal driving performance and reliability.
