ST launches waterproof pressure sensor with first order from Samsung Wearables.

     STMicroelectronics' latest miniature pressure sensors take underwater measurement accuracy to a new level. The new sensor was unveiled by Samsung in its latest smart band, the Samsung Gear Fit 2 Pro. As smartwatches and wearable fitness trackers become integrated into every aspect of life, households want to further expand the use of the devices to record performance in more sports, such as swimming.

     To take advantage of these trends, Samsung's next-generation Gear Fit 2 Pro offers users features like built-in GPS, continuous heart rate tracking, and more memory to do a lot of things without connecting to a phone. On the inside of this bracelet, ST's new waterproof press sensor LPS33HW has chemical resistance. Resistant to chemicals such as chlorine, bromine or salt water, suitable for swimming pools or seawater swimming scenarios, and resistant to soap or detergents used in showers or cleaning processes.

     Wearable devices are only just testing the waters when it comes to swimming, and waterproof pressure sensors face challenges that go far beyond protecting electronics. The LPS33HW not only has the highest measurement accuracy in the current market, because it can be restored to the highest accuracy soon after the production line, so it also helps Oems to quickly deploy. Other brands of sensors take up to seven weeks to return to maximum accuracy after rolling off the assembly line, but devices with the LPS33HW cut recovery time by more than half, thanks to the sensor's built-in high-performance processor and advanced waterproof glue formulation.

Samsung has used this top-performing pressure sensor in the development of its latest GearFit2Pro series of smart wristbands, and users will appreciate the precision and robustness of this sensor.

     In addition to smart consumer electronics, industrial sensors, energy meters and other devices also benefit from the durability and measurement accuracy of the LPS33HW. The 10bar waterproof pressure sensor can withstand pressure in water depths of up to 90 meters, and the RMS pressure noise is only 0.008mbar, which allows the altimeter, depth meter and weather monitor to provide consistent and stable measurement results. The sensor's annual drift is less than ±1mbar.
