ST launches "Understanding Embedded Systems through SensorTile" iot course

     STMicroelectronics announced that, including students, makers, budding engineers and computer scientists, Anyone can take the "Introduction to Embedded Systems with SensorTile" course (understanding embedded systems through SensorTile). Includes an instructional course developed by UCLA Professor WilliamKaiser for first-year computer engineering students, this online course resource provides a foundation for understanding the fundamentals of sensor-based embedded systems for the Internet of Things (oT). St encourages professors at other universities to adapt and complement the curriculum.

     This introductory course consists of 8 self-paced tutorials designed around ST's SensorTile. SensorTle is a one-of-a-kind real-time embedded system with iot capabilities, integrated on a module the size of a postage stamp. The 13.5mmx13.5mm micro-module integrates a high-performance, low-power STM32Arm@-Cortex@-M microcontroller, five practical MEMS sensors and a Bluetooth network processor. Five of the sensors are accelerometers, gyroscopes, electronic compasses, pressure sensors, and microphones. The development kit, which includes the module, cable, base and battery, costs about $80 at large distributors.

     WilliamKaiser is a professor at UCLA's HenrySamueli School of Engineering and Applied Science, current director of the Research group on Dynamic Measurement and Collaborative Embedded Networking Technologies, and recipient of the 2007 UCLA GoldShieldPrize The Prize is awarded to the most promising full-time professors with outstanding achievements in creative activity research and teaching achievements, especially at the undergraduate level.
