ST announced a 2.6A miniature brushed DC motor driver chip for portable battery-powered iot hardware
STMicroelectronics expands its portfolio of micro low-voltage energy-efficient motor drivers with the introduction of STSPIN250 2.6A brushed DC motor monolithic drivers for battery-powered portable and wearable devices.
The new driver chip integrates a power MOSFET full bridge and a fixed turn-off PWM current controller in a 3mm x 3mm miniature package that saves space on portable devices. The low on-resistance of the power stage (upper arm + lower arm total 200mΩ) and the lowest standby power consumption on the market (less than 80nA) help to maximize the battery life of the portable device and reduce the case temperature. Operating voltages from 10V to 1.8V allow designers to choose a single lithium battery power supply.
Combined with high performance, cost effectiveness and reliability, brushed DC motors are widely used in a variety of electronic equipment. The STSPIN250's high output current is suitable for use in low and medium power devices such as portable printers, POS payment terminals, consumer electronics devices, electric valves, electric door locks, electronic toys, and healthcare products such as injection pumps and electric toothbrushes. The new drive also comes with a full range of built-in protection features, including undervoltage lock protection (UVLO), non-dissipative overcurrent protection, short circuit protection and overheat shut-off.
The STSPIN250 is the successor to the STSPIN220 stepper motor driver, STSPIN230 three-phase brushless motor driver, and STSPIN240 1.3A brushed DC motor driver that ST introduced last year for portable and battery-powered devices. The STSPIN product family now enables designers to select compact, easy-to-use, energy-efficient drives for the types of motors most commonly used in portable devices, driving widespread adoption of iot hardware.
The STSPIN250 motor drive ecosystem supports rapid drive evaluation and product prototyping, with key components including the STM32 Nucleo expansion board (X-NUCLEO-IHM13A1), And related software tools (X-Cub-SPN13) that provide rich STM32Cube MCU development resources for motor control projects.
