SABIC ULTEM resin was used to develop integrated single-mode WDM module

     Saudi Basic Industries Corporation (SABIC), a global diversified chemical company, has partnered with China's Guangdong Blu-ray Intelligent Technology Co., Ltd. to develop its first integrated single-mode fiber lens array for wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) modules. Wavelength division multiplexing module can simultaneously transmit different wavelengths of light across a single fiber, significantly improving bandwidth capacity. The innovative design uses SABIC's ULTEM resin, a high temperature resistant polyetherimide (PEI) resin with near-infrared (IR) penetration, to achieve an integrated molding of the connector (previously metal) and the receiving lens array (previously glass), as well as the casing of the WDM component.

     By integrating components to avoid secondary processing, SABIC's resin helps reduce the cost of single-mode WDM communications applications. Blu-ray Intelligent's integrated WDM module not only saves costs, but also simplifies manufacturing and assembly processes compared to making individual components from glass or metal.

     Blu-ray Intelligent Technology optical lens array products for WDM modules meet Telcordia GR-468 optoelectronic device performance standards. This simplified, economical component is expected to further expand the applications of the emerging technology of single-mode WDM fiber, enabling data transmission over longer distances and with greater energy efficiency than multimode systems.
