QORVO introduces the industry's first high-power BAW filter for 5G migration

Qorvo has announced the introduction of the industry's smallest bulk acoustic wave (BAW) filter, the QPQ1300, which can handle an average of 5W RF input power and a peak power of 40W. Moreover, the QPQ1300 filter is the industry's first high-power BAW filter for 5G migration, addressing the reliability, packaging, testing, and space constraints challenges encountered when designing massive MIMO telecommunications infrastructure for 5G migration.

     Qorvo has announced the introduction of the industry's smallest bulk acoustic wave (BAW) filter, the QPQ1300, which can handle an average of 5W RF input power and a peak power of 40W. Moreover, the QPQ1300 filter is the industry's first high-power BAW filter for 5G migration, addressing the reliability, packaging, testing, and space constraints challenges encountered when designing massive MIMO telecommunications infrastructure for 5G migration.

     Telecom service providers are deploying massive MIMO devices to scale up LTE networks and prepare for 5G performance in high-traffic areas. This is conducive to increasing capacity, improving signal quality, and improving the utilization of existing network spectrum.

     The QPQ1300 uses Qorvo's powerful Solid resonator (SMR) BAW technology, which supports the highly reliable thermal power performance required for massive MIMO infrastructure devices. With a size of 5x5x1mm, the QPQ1300 uses up to 90% less space than a ceramic filter. The QPQ1300 is optimized for 2575-2635 MHz, which is a subband of band 41. Eligible customers can now request a QPQ1300 prototype sample.

     James Klein, President of Qorvo's Infrastructure and Defense Products division, said: "The QPQ1300's size and power handling capabilities set it apart from all other filters on the market today. With smaller filters, telecom equipment manufacturers can design printed circuit boards for space-constrained applications such as massive MIMO, leveraging existing LTE network infrastructure to increase network capacity."

     The QPQ1300 expands Qorvo's extensive line of advanced BAW base station filters to help solve difficult interference and coexistence challenges around the world. They also enable operators and manufacturers to improve speed, bandwidth and the efficiency of existing spectrum.
