Power Integrations joins forces with Weltrend Semiconductor to launch 18 W USB PD Fast charger reference design for smart mobile devices

     Power Integrations, an industry leader in high-voltage integrated circuits for energy-efficient power conversion, and Weltrend Semiconductor, a leader in USB Type-CTM power transfer (PD) controllers, have joined forces to introduce an 18 W USB for smart mobile devices PD AC-DC power converter reference design. The design (reference design DER-567) uses both the WT6630P USB Type-C PD controller from Vistectron Electronics and the InnoSwitch™-CP offline constant voltage/constant current flyback switching Power supply IC from Power Integrations. Enables engineers to quickly achieve compact and energy efficient power adapter designs that meet energy efficiency standards.

     Weltrend Semiconductor's WT6630P USB PD controller is certified to the USB Type-C standard for USB Implementers Forum (USB-IF) and is compatible with the USB PD 2.0 baseband communication protocol. Our devices integrate Type-C cable detection circuits, USB PD physical layer (PHY), and system-level protection components such as over voltage protection (OVP), over current protection (OCP), and over temperature protection (OTP), thereby reducing the BOM number.

     Power Integration's InnoSwitch-CP switching power supply IC saves charging time and costs by providing a constant power output feature that allows battery-operated devices to obtain maximum power from the charger at any given output voltage condition. Using the company's innovative FluxLink technology, the InnoSwitch-CP IC not only eliminates the optocoupler but also enables secondary side control, providing fast dynamic response, excellent constant voltage/constant current adjustment and extremely low no-load power consumption. FluxLink technology also makes it easy to achieve safe synchronous rectification work, helping to design extremely efficient power supplies.
