Power Integrations introduces the new 900V InnoSwitch-EP IC for industrial and three-phase power applications

     Power Integrations, the industry leader in high voltage integrated circuits for energy efficient power conversion, has announced the release of 900 V constant voltage/constant displacement flyback switching IC devices, adding to the InnoSwitch™-EP product family. The new devices are suitable for industrial control, motor drives, instrumentation and renewable energy applications powered by HVDC or three-phase power, as well as for standard grid voltage applications that require continuous operation of the power supply in the face of input surges and voltage surges. The 900V InnoSwitch-EP IC achieves very high power efficiency, typically up to 85% in dual-output 18-W designs, which not only eliminates the need for heat sink, but also enables the design of a highly compact power supply.

     David Chen, Director of application engineering at Power Integrations, said: "High-voltage system designers are typically faced with megawatt-level application environments where they may need to use a few milliwatts to power a low-voltage microprocessor system or tens of watts to power an inverter gate driver. "Our new 900V InnoSwitch-EP device greatly simplifies power supply design for common industrial voltage supply ranges, making the power supply robust and reliable."

     Power Integrations' InnoSwitch-EP IC product line, released last year, uses the company's innovative, safety-compliant FluxLink™ magnetic coupling technology with integrated synchronous rectification and precise secondary side control, enabling the design of highly efficient, highly reliable power supplies. At the same time no optocoupler is required. The new 900 V InnoSwitch-EP IC incorporates a more powerful 900 V power MOSFETs to provide a large operating voltage margin for increased reliability and service life in 450 VAC industrial system applications. The new device can operate continuously at input voltages up to 450VAC. In addition, input undervoltage/overvoltage protection - as an additional layer of protection that can be set manually, protects the entire circuit by preventing the IC from switching when the input voltage rises to 650VAC. This flexibility is a great advantage for designers who need their power supplies to be suitable for global application environments.

     The 900 V InnoSwitch-EP IC improves power reliability by reducing the number of BOM components and eliminating the need for an optocoupler whose performance degrades over time. The power supply design with this new device exceeds the ENERGY efficiency requirements of all international energy efficiency standards, such as ENERGY STAR, California Energy Commission standards, European Union Code of Conduct (CoC), ErP directives, and U.S. Department of Energy standards. They are UL1577 and TUV (EN60950) safety certified in accordance with EN61000-4-8 (100 A/m) and EN61000-4-9 (1000 A/m) standards.
