Power Integrations introduces 150W LED driver design RDK-292
Power Integrations announced the availability of 150 W, 48 V power supply reference designs for LED street lights and other industrial/infrastructure lighting systems. The driver circuit described in the RDR-292 can exceed 93% and 91% efficiency at 230 VAC and 110 VAC inputs, respectively. This design provides a system power factor (PF) of more than 0.97 and a THD of less than 10%, easily compliant with EN61000-3-2 C. Under the same design platform, the design can be adjusted from 75 W to 400 W simply by selecting different converter ics and corresponding power device sizes from HiperPFS™ (PFC) and HiperLCS™ (LLC) family members.
The RDK-292 requires less than 125 components to implement the driver's PFC, LLC, and standby power supply circuits, reducing BOM costs and delivering superior reliability. The design uses Power Integrations' highly integrated HiperPFS power factor correction IC and HiperLCS resonant converter IC combinations, which can omit up to 35 components compared to traditional LLC solutions. HiperLCS also allows the use of smaller core and output filter capacitors than the average LLC design. The design also incorporates the Qspeed™ hybrid PIN Schottky diode, which improves CCM PFC efficiency by significantly reducing diode recovery losses compared to conventional ultra-fast silicon-based PFC diodes.
To be able to be installed in a remote lighting control system, the design implements a high-efficiency standby Power supply based on Power Integrations' LinkSwitch™-TN IC. The addition of the CAPZero™ X capacitive discharge IC provides further energy savings, reducing load free power consumption by approximately 800 mW at 264 VAC input.
