ON Semiconductor launches the world's most compact Sigfox certified solution

Driving energy efficient innovation, ON Semiconductor introduces a new programmable RF transceiver System-on-chip package (SiP) that integrates an advanced RF system single-chip (SOC) with all surrounding bill of materials, including a thermocooled crystal oscillator TCXO. AX-SIP-SFEU offers the most integrated Sigfox solution for both upstream (send) and downstream (receive) communications.

     Driving energy efficient innovation, ON Semiconductor introduces a new programmable RF transceiver System-on-chip package (SiP) that integrates an advanced RF system single-chip (SOC) with all surrounding bill of materials, including a thermocooled crystal oscillator TCXO. AX-SIP-SFEU offers the most integrated Sigfox solution for both upstream (send) and downstream (receive) communications. This is the first device in a new SiP family that On Semiconductor will launch in the coming months, providing a comprehensive, ready-to-use, turnkey radio frequency (RF) solution for applications requiring Internet of Things (I0T) connectivity.

     Many iot applications face the challenge of limited space - for example, in these applications, connected proximity sensors are required. On Semiconductor's 7 mmx 9 mmx 1 mm SiP transceiver is approximately one-third the footprint of a modular solution and one-tenth the overall size, giving engineers greater design freedom. Building on the success of the AX-SFEU SoC family and thanks to the integration of all the necessary functions, the AX SIP-SFEU makes ON Semiconductor the supplier of the market-leading single-chip solution for Sigfox. This "out of the box" solution features a conformal shielding package and pre-certified radio regulatory approval upon delivery, helping simplify design, speed the time-to-market process, and reduce overall development costs, allowing customers to focus on their applications and antenna designs.

     Because battery-powered solutions require a long service life, wireless communication application design engineers are more concerned about power consumption. Sigfox is predictable and claims the lowest power consumption "Device to Cloud", coupled with ON Semiconductor's unique ultra-low power design, enables the new SiP to have standby, sleep and deep sleep mode currents of only 0.5 amps (mA), 1.3 microamps (A) and 100 nanoamps (nA), respectively.

     AX-SIP-SFEU connects to customers' products through a simple universal Asynchronous Transceiver (UART) interface. The AT command is used to send frames and configure radio parameters, and provides a variety of different application programming interfaces (apis) for customers who want to write their own software. The new device is part of the ON Semiconductor ecosystem, which also includes a development kit and an integrated integrated development environment (IDE) for software developers.
