ON Semiconductor introduces ultra-low power vehicle-scale wireless microcontrollers with Bluetooth low power connectivity
Leading the way in smart power and intelligent perception technologies, onsemi introduces an ultra-low power vehicle-scale wireless microcontroller with Bluetooth low power connection. As the number of sensors and on-board communication increases, automakers are increasingly turning to wireless connectivity technology to reduce wiring costs and weight, and the NCV-RSL15 is an ideal choice for them. On the other hand, the increased deployment of sensors could lead to a subsequent increase in the number of cyber attacks, exacerbating security problems. Using this new microcontroller can address such safety concerns.
While the list of sensors and general features in tire pressure monitoring systems (TMS) and other sensing applications continues to grow, the power budget has not. Meanwhile, some applications now require batteries to last up to 10 years. Certified by EEMBC as the industry's lowest-power secure wireless microcontroller, the NCV-RSL15 features a proprietary intelligence-aware power mode to minimize power consumption. It can save more battery power and increase the service life of the product.
"The NVV-RSL15 performs well in applications such as vehicle access and tire pressure monitoring systems," said Michel De Mey, vice president of ON Semiconductor's Industrial Solutions Division. "Its compact size makes it ideal for portable remote access devices and other space-constrained tires and vehicles. We combine ultra-low power consumption with extremely small space occupancy and the latest embedded security technology into one device, enabling customers to tackle complex design challenges involving sensing for wireless automotive applications."
As the number of access points increases, potential attack vectors must be secured to prevent wireless access to unauthorised users to the on-board central computer or central processing unit. NCV-RSL15 uses Arm® CryptoCell™ to deliver the latest in embedded security technology with hardware-based trust root security startup, multi-user accessible hardware-accelerated encryption algorithms, and over-the-air Download Firmware (FOTA) capabilities to support future firmware updates and security patch deployments
