New 1080p full HD image sensor with interlaced HDR
The OmniVision Group, a leading global developer of semiconductor solutions for advanced digital imaging, analog, touch and display technologies, today announced the OV02E. This 1080p full HD (FHD) image sensor with interlocking high Dynamic Range (HDR) is suitable for devices with thin bezel designs, including mainstream and high-end laptops, tablets and iot devices. The feature-rich 1/7.3-inch sensor works with an artificial intelligence (AI) chip to sense the presence of the user in ultra-low power normally on mode to extend battery life in portable devices.
Akeem Chen, OmniVision Group Product Marketing Manager, said:"Our new product, OV02E, is a single-chip solution that meets the computing industry's demand for high video quality and low BOM cost. We've all had the experience of making a video call with a bad backlight that resulted in poor image quality and an overly bright background. Now, with staggered HDR support, bad backlighting is no longer a problem during video conference calls. In addition, we have added some new features, such as an ultra-low power mode with AI capabilities for excellent normally on function. These are mainstream consumer requirements for laptops in 2023 and 2024."
All of these features are packaged in an ultra-small size chip that can be used in compact cameras, ideal for devices with a screen size of less than 3 mm (Y size), such as tablets and wearables. The Howe Group's OV02E sensor features 1.12 micron backlighting (BSI) pixels and is based on Howe's proven proprietary PureCel®Plus architecture to achieve high pixel sensitivity and quantum efficiency. The sensor is capable of 2-megapixel full HD 1080p video (60 frames per second).
It supports multi-camera syncing and can be used for machine vision and Internet of Things applications that require deep detection. The normally on function of the OV02E has an ultra-low power state and can be used in conjunction with the Mobile Industry Processor Interface (MIPI) and Serial Peripheral Interface (SPI).
