NI announced the introduction of the industry's first Intel Xeon-based PXI embedded controller
NI, a provider of solutions for engineers and scientists to tackle the world's toughest engineering challenges, announced the introduction of the Intel Xeon processor-based NI PXIe-8880 controller and the industry's first NI PXIe-1085 chassis with third-generation PCI Express technology. The eight-core server-grade Intel Xeon processor E5-2618L v3 and 24GB/s total system bandwidth deliver unprecedented performance for compute-intensive and highly parallel applications such as wireless testing, semiconductor testing, and 5G prototype development. The flexibility of the PXI platform allows users to easily replace previous versions of the controller with the latest NI PXIe-8880, achieving up to twice the performance of previous test and measurement applications.

NI has partnered with Intel to bring the server-grade processing power of Intel Xeon processors to the test and measurement market. The embedded controller has eight cores, up to 24GB of DDR4 memory, and 24 PCI Express Gen 3 connectivity channels to the backplane. This gives engineers and scientists twice the processing power and bandwidth of the previous generation of controllers. In addition, the new 18-slot chassis features third-generation PCI Express technology with eight channels per slot to match the total system bandwidth of 24 GB/s, making it easy for any test and measurement system to meet future demands.
