Microsemi introduces new LED drivers for LCD TVS

     Microsemi Corporation announced the introduction of the LX27901, a new breakthrough lossless LED backlight driver for LCD TVS that features a proprietary lossless architecture that significantly improves power efficiency while enhancing backlight performance and reducing overall solution cost. The LX27901 LED driver is also the first device to provide LED driving capability for TVS based on the LCD Integrated Power Supply (LIPS) architecture. The LIPS architecture integrates the TV's main power supply with the LED driver on a single printed circuit board, providing lower cost and higher efficiency.

     Amir Asvadi, corporate vice president and general manager of Microsemi's Analog Mixed Signal division, said: "The LX27901 continues the company's long tradition of innovation in high-performance display lighting solutions, improving power efficiency by 7 to 9 percent. Combined with the ability to reduce the number of components and bill of materials costs, this extraordinary energy saving effect is driving the rapid growth of LiP-based LCD TVS. With the introduction of the LX27901, we are well positioned to exploit opportunities in this dynamic market segment."

     According to market researcher Display Search, more than 200 million LCD TVS are launched each year, most of which use LED technology. J.W. Suh, president of Bescom Global, a South Korean electronics distributor, said: "The LX27901 LED driver features advanced features such as lossless current balancing for multiple series of leds, the ability to adapt a single transformer design to a wider range of display panel sizes, and the ACU_BRITE algorithm, which is a proprietary technology from Mico Semi, for increased emphasis on optical accuracy. These advanced capabilities have enabled our largest customers to use LX27901 devices in a number of TV designs in 2012."
