Microsemi doubles the capacity of the precise Time Protocol client that provides synchronization capabilities for LTE networks

     Microsemi Corporation, a leading provider of differentiated semiconductor technology solutions in power, security, reliability and performance, announced a doubling of the capacity of its Precise Time Protocol (PTP) client for the TimeProvider 2700 PTP Master Clock (GM) for LTE networks. TimeProvider 2700 now provides concurrent hardware timestamp support for up to 128 PTP clients, making it more cost-effective to use a single GM clock.

     The installed TimeProvider 2700 can be upgraded to greater client capacity support without additional hardware, further improving ease of deployment with higher capacity. This significantly improves scalability and can easily meet the PTP capacity expansion that comes with future network growth, while minimizing future hardware investments or hardware replacements. Microsemi Corporation's TimeProvider 2300 Edge Boundary Clock also supports capacity expansion up to 128 PTP clients.

     Advanced services delivered through LTE and LTE-A require dense deployment of radio access networks (RAN) in densely populated subways and metro areas, resulting in the need for more synchronous support for more clients /RAN nodes in the network. Now Microsemi Corporation has added PTP capacity to TP2700, enabling operators to provide the exact frequency and phase to support their doubling of the number of terminal nodes to provide these advanced services to end customers.

     The TimeProvider family is the industry's first family of optimized synchronization solutions that provide precise timing from the network core to the network boundary, support fast switching of Ethernet mobile backhaul, and improve the mobile service experience of end users. The TimeProvider family fully supports the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) PTP specification in the field of frequency and phase synchronization, and has excellent client capacity scalability, enabling wireless operators to seamlessly migrate their networks forward and ensure high-quality service for LTE and small cell deployments.

     According to the Global Mobile Providers Alliance (GSA), a total of 79 operators have rolled out, deployed or are trialling LTE Advanced technology in their networks. The GSA also said that 21 operators have launched LTE Advanced carrier aggregation in 14 countries.
