Microsemi Corporation introduces secure solid-state drives based on mSATA SLC

     Microsemi Corporation, a leading provider of differentiated semiconductor technology solutions in terms of power, safety, reliability and performance, has released Compact form-factor Serial Advanced Technology Accessory (SATA) solid-state drives (SSDS). For industrial, defense, intelligence, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), and laptops that require extremely high security to protect data at rest. The low-power mSATA SSD has 64GB of single-stage unit (SLC) flash capacity, and its compact form factor of 50 mm x 30 mm is 65% smaller than similar 2.5-inch devices. SSDS also feature Armor processors from MGM, which address obsolescence issues common in industrial and defense applications by guaranteeing long-term safety and performance.

     Bill Sorrentino, tactical marketing Manager for Microsemi Corporation's memory and storage business, said, "The combination of Mico's miniaturization technology with the Armor processor's high-end security features enables customers to design secure systems and reduce the footprint required. In advanced deep sleep low power mode, the SSD uses only 150mW of power and can be "booted up immediately." This feature allows for longer field life for battery-powered applications. In addition, it reduces the cooling component required for products where heat is a concern."

     The device is the latest addition to Microsemi Corporation's advanced TRRUST-Stor secure SSD family in the compact MO-300 mSATA form factor, offering security features such as hardware-based AES-256 XTS encryption and an advanced key management system. Its new Armor III processor can also clean drives using the NSA 9-12 protocol in less than two minutes, up to three times faster than the industry standard.

     As part of TRRUST-Stor's best-in-class self-encrypting Driver (SED) technology, this product offers security that is unmatched in standard mSATA SSDS. The product also features an advanced key management mode and isolated key fill feature protection to ensure that the encryption key does not reside in the SSD after the power is turned off, thus protecting data at rest that is not powered on. For sensitive applications, hardware or software signals can trigger protection programs that erase encryption keys within 30 milliseconds (ms). The system can also activate a second level of security layer that erases the entire storage media within 10 seconds, making the data unforensically recoverable.
