Micron introduces a new flagship NVMe solid-state storage family

Micron Technology Inc. has introduced the latest in its flagship line of performance solid state storage products, the Micron 9200 series NVMe solid State Drives (SSDS). With an innovative architecture and industry-leading performance, the Micron 9200 series SSD enables organizations to access data faster and prepare for diverse business-critical workloads and surging data demands.

Micron Technology Inc. has introduced the latest in its flagship line of performance solid state storage products, the Micron 9200 series NVMe solid State Drives (SSDS). With an innovative architecture and industry-leading performance, the Micron 9200 series SSD enables organizations to access data faster and prepare for diverse business-critical workloads and surging data demands.

The new Micron 9200 Series SSD combines 3D NAND affordable capacity with the proven throughput and response time of the NVM Express (NVMe) protocol. Micron's second-generation NVMe drives are designed from scratch to eliminate the traditional hard drive interface layer, enabling the overall speed of solid-state nonvolatile storage and maximizing data center efficiency for optimal total cost of ownership (TCO).

"With the addition of the Micron 9200 Series SSD to the Micron SSD portfolio, we will provide our customers with an even richer portfolio of storage solutions to meet their evolving business needs."

The capacity and performance of the Micron 9200 series SSD enables data centers to store more data, perform more tasks, and gain a deeper understanding of the data within them. The innovative architecture of the NVMe protocol on the PCIe connection allows the Micron 9200 SSD to deliver outstanding enterprise-class flash performance (up to 10x faster than regular SATA SSDS on the market) while saving energy and rack space through the high-density storage of Micron 3D NAND. [i] In addition, the Micron 9200 is the first NVMe SSD in the market with a capacity greater than 10TB, providing a competitive cost per GB for even the most demanding use cases.

"NVMe reduces I/O overhead by increasing the number of storage commands that can be executed simultaneously on a single hard drive." Matt Kimball, senior analyst for server and storage at Moor Insights & Strategy, said, "But all along, the barriers to widespread adoption of this technology have been price and reliability. "Technology from companies like Micron promises to remove these barriers, a major step toward reducing I/O latency for storage-intensive workloads."

Fully meet workload requirements

The Micron 9200 Series SSDS are designed to serve as the storage foundation for the Micron SolidScale™ platform, providing greater capacity for more efficient workload optimization while reducing the total cost of ownership. With the 9200, SolidScale expands the capacity of today's highest-performing NVMe SSDS by more than 5 petabytes per rack, achieving more than 250TB of node capacity. These new high-performance NVMe drives speed up applications and inject new life and agility into aging infrastructure, providing critical capabilities for today's businesses
