Microchip unveils new memory series
Microchip Technology, the world's leading provider of integrated microcontroller, mixed-signal, emulator and flash memory patented solutions, announced the launch of a new low-cost, low-risk storage solution with superior durability and data security in the event of a power outage. The new I2C EERAM memory family is an easy-to-implement, non-volatile SRAM memory product for applications that require continuous or immediate recording, updating or monitoring of data, such as metrology, automotive and industrial applications.
The EERAM is a standalone SRAM memory, and the EEPROM shadow backup is included on the same chip to help automatically retain the contents of the SRAM memory in the event of a system power failure. EERAM provides instant random write to arrays without write cycle delay. The I2C EERAM series is available in 4 Kb and 16 Kb densities in a variety of package sizes including standard 8-pin SOIC, TSSOP and PDIP. The EERAM series operates at 3.0V and 5.0V and provides automotion-grade storage solutions in the temperature range of industrial and automotive applications (-40°C to 85°C and -40°C to 125°C).
The new EERAM device successfully combines two proven and reliable memory technologies, EEPROM and SRAM, on a single chip, providing both a robust and reliable data solution and the lowest-cost non-volatile SRAM solution. The EERAM series ensures data security in the event of a system outage without the use of an external battery. When the system is powered off, a small external capacitor is used to provide the energy needed to store the contents of the SRAM to the EEPROM.
