Microchip introduces the industry's first CAN flexible data rate and CAN partial network transceiver family

Microchip Technology has announced that the industry's first family of Controller Local Area Network (CAN) transceivers is now available from Microchip, which includes a variety of Level 0 automotive components. The ATA65XX family adds six new devices to Microchip's CAN product line.

     Microchip Technology has announced that the industry's first family of Controller Local Area Network (CAN) transceivers is now available from Microchip, which includes a variety of Level 0 automotive components. The ATA65XX family adds six new devices to Microchip's CAN product line.

     The new family supports the newly established CAN FD(Flexible Data Rate) protocol with a maximum communication rate of 5 Mbps, as well as the new CAN PN(partial network) standard that improves vehicle energy efficiency. As a result, the device is fully compliant with ISO 118980-2/5/6, 11898-2:2016 and SAE J2962-2. The ATA6562, ATA6563, ATA6564, ATA6565 and ATA6566 form the industry's first Class 0 automotive CAN/CAN FD transceiver family with ambient temperature ratings ranging from -40°C to 150°C.

     The series also offers the CAN segment network transceiver, which includes a window watchdog. Large automotive manufacturers mainly use the devices in this family for applications that do not use external common mode chokes (CMCS), as required by most CAN transceivers.

     Matthias Kaestner, Microchip's vice president of Automotive Applications, said: "Microchip has one of the strongest and most complete CAN product lines in the industry. Our transceivers reduce the number of external components and the board area, which not only reduces system costs, but also ensures reliable communication in demanding automotive environments."

     All members of the series have wake-up via the CAN bus with a dual wake-up mode compliant with ISO11898-2:2016. A modern car has more than 70 electronic control units (ECUs) that support the CAN interface. This feature avoids unnecessary power-on sequences, resulting in significant energy savings and reduced emissions.
