Melexis expands its portfolio of temperature sensors with the introduction of innovative micro FIR sensors

     Melexis has announced a new family of miniature far infrared (FIR) sensors for a wide range of applications requiring accurate temperature measurements.the MLX90632 series is based on Melascore's proven FIR technology - based on the principle that every object emits thermal radiation. The ultra-small integrated Thermopile CMOSIC is a complete solution containing sensor elements, signal processing, digital interfaces and optics in a 3x3x1mmQFN package that can be quickly and easily integrated into a variety of modern applications.

     The high-precision device provides a high level of thermal stability when undergoing thermal gradients and rapid temperature changes, addressing the well-known weaknesses of existing infrared sensors. In addition, it offers a surface Mount type (SMD) package that is compatible with standard PCB assembly technology. The first civilian-grade product of the MLX90632 series is now available. Subsequent MLX90632 products will target very demanding applications such as medical care. Smart device manufacturers can differentiate their products with precise temperature measurements. The integration of an optical lens in this product reduces the Angle of view (FOV), resulting in a higher working distance and more accurate measurement accuracy.

     The MLX90632 can be used in any application where accurate temperature measurements are necessary, especially in thermodynamic environments and where available space is limited. Potential applications therefore include white and black appliances, smart thermostats, indoor temperature monitoring in server rooms, or integration into portable electronic devices such as tablets and smartphones.
