Littelfuse transient suppression diode array protects HBLED lamp strings from ESD and EFT damage

Littelfuse has introduced a family of Transient Suppression Diode Arrays (SPA diodes) products designed to protect every input/output pin for electronic devices that may experience damaging electrostatic discharge (ESD) or electrical fast transients (EFT). The new SP1064 series transient suppression diode array is a Zener diode manufactured using proprietary silicon avalanche technology.

These powerful diodes can safely absorb repeated ESD discharges above the highest levels specified in the IEC61000-4-2 international standard without degradation in performance. The extremely low load capacitance (typically 8.5pF per input/output) also makes them ideal for protecting high-speed signal pins.

Typical applications of the SP1064 series include backlight and side-light solutions for protecting UHD TVS, LCD/plasma/TVS, desktop/laptop computers, and point-of-sale monitors.

The SP1064 series transient suppression diodes offer the following key benefits:

• The high off-state voltage (up to 60V) enables it to protect lamp strings of up to 15 HBLED used in the backlight or side light of UHD TVS from ESD and EFT damage.

• Each four-wire DFN array protects up to four lines of LED strings. A single four-line device is sufficient to protect small displays, while large displays require only one device per quadrant.

• The SP1064 series provides at least 15kV contact protection against 8/20µs ESD phenomena, providing better ESD protection than comparable transient suppression diodes on the market.

• The industry-standard uDFN-10 package ensures that solution costs and cost of ownership are kept low.
