Linear Technology Corporation introduced the latest high reliability and military temperature grade version of the controller
Linear Technology Corporation has introduced the latest highly reliable and military temperature grade version of the LTC4412, a rugged "Ideal Diode" PowerPath™ controller. The LTC4412 enables low-loss "on-circuit" operation of multiple input DC power supplies. Its forward voltage of 20mV is at least 10 times lower than the Schottky diode. As a result, the device improves efficiency by an order of magnitude by significantly reducing power losses and self-heating in systems that require automatic switching or load sharing between different power sources. The LTC4412 is guaranteed to meet performance specifications over a wide range of operating conditions, such as a junction temperature range of -55 °C to 150°C in the operating voltage range of 2.5V to 28V.
In a compact SOT package, the LTC4412 also offers battery reverse and MOSFET protection circuits. The device provides a digital control input and an open-drain state output pin to simplify the interface to the microcontroller. Applications include systems typically powered by multiple input sources, such as high-current power path switches, uninterruptible power supplies, backup battery systems, logic control power switches, and automotive and industrial systems.
Multiple LTC4412 devices can be used to switch between multiple batteries, or multiple batteries can be charged with a single charger. The LTC4412 status pin (STAT) can be used to control a second p-channel MOSFET power switch to remove two Schottky diodes from the diode "on-circuit" circuit. The device's 11µA ultra-low static current is unaffected by the load current.
The LTC4412 comes in a flat SOT-23 package. The Class E and I versions have an operating junction temperature range of -40°C to +85°C, the high-reliability Class H version has an operating junction temperature range of -40°C to +155°C, and the military MP version has an operating junction temperature range of -55°C to +150°C.
