Lattice's flexible charging controller supports Qualcomm's fast charging technology
Lattice Semiconductor Corporation, a leading provider of customized intelligent interconnect solutions to the market, today announced that Lattice's flexible charging controller, the LIF-UC product family, supports the Qualcomm Quick Charge standard. Qualcomm Technologies introduced Quick Charge 2.0 and 3.0 technologies. As more powerful devices enter the market, faster charging becomes even more critical. To support the development of this area, Qualcomm Technologies has introduced a Power Management IC(PMIC), which makes full use of fast charging technology to optimize the charging architecture inside mobile devices.
Lattice offers ics for power adapters that can be used to ensure proper communication of the PMIC inside a mobile device. The LIF-UC device family offers flexible programming capabilities that ensure customers can differentiate their designs and make them a reality. By upgrading the firmware of Lattice solutions, engineers can quickly switch between different eras of Charging specifications, including Quick Charge, Battery Charging, Power Delivery, and standards for USB Type-C interfaces.

Chee, Senior director of Consumer Electronics Markets at Lattice Semiconductor, said: "This is the result of our collaboration with Qualcomm Technologies to bring customers a complete end-to-end solution and accelerate the time-to-market process. The combined solution is optimized for flexibility and can support multiple charging schemes, so chargers using the solution can support existing and future mobile devices."
Lattice's programmable charge controllers are fully compatible with the USB Power Delivery v2.0 specification and, when combined with Qualcomm's fast charging technology, enable a flexible solution to reduce the time required to charge mobile device batteries. At present, several manufacturers in the global market have introduced smart phones, tablets and wall power adapters that support Quick Charge 2.0 technology. The Quick Charge 3.0 technology is designed to charge up to four times faster than traditional technology.
