Infrared emitters provide higher radiation intensity in a smaller footprint

     Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. has expanded its optoelectronics' portfolio with the release of eight new AEC-Q102-qualified 850nm and 940nm high-power infrared emitters that deliver best-in-class radiation intensity in 3.4mm x 3.4mm surface-mount packages. Vishay semiconductor devices are based on the company's Astral surface transmitter chip technology and are designed for high drive currents of up to 1.5A DC and 5A pulses in automotive applications.

     The infrared emitter uses a dual-stacked chip that delivers typical radiation intensity of up to 6,000 MW /sr at 5A pulse current and 2,000 MW /sr at 1.5 DC current, Pulse current and 2,000 MW/SR at 1.5 DC current, which is 10% higher than the closest competing devices. These values increase lighting for better contrast while minimizing the number of components required, reducing costs and saving space. To further save space, the launcher's compact surface mount package takes up 20% of the space with the lens compared to the competition.

     Infrared emitters are ideal for ADAS, driver and cockpit surveillance systems, eye tracking and closed-circuit television. The 940nm device is designed to suppress the red light effect in these applications, while the 850nm emitter is better matched to the camera. To accommodate different fields of view for different applications, these devices offer four half-intensity angles :±28°, ±40°, ±60° and ±75°.

     The transmitter operates in a temperature range from -40 ° C to +125 ° C and offers low thermal resistance from 5K/W to 9K/W, providing optimized thermal management and enabling high drive currents. rohs compliant, halogen-free and Vishay Green, the device supports lead-free (Pb) reflow soldering. The infrared transmitter provides high ESD resistance up to 5kV according to ANSI/ESDA/JEDEC JS-001, a floor life of 168 hours, and a humidity sensitivity rating of 3, compliant with J-STD-020E.
