Infineon's new pixel technology for indirect Time of Flight (i-ToF) sensors

     Infineon Technologies and Uplander (pmd), a quality partner specializing in 3D ToF, have launched the IRS2875C image sensor, a performance advanced version of the IRS2975C. The industry's first image sensor based on Infineon's latest pixel technology, it works using time-of-flight (ToF) technology known as indirect time-of-flight (i-ToF). The IRS2975C's small size and performance are tailored for the growing number of iToF applications, providing a wide range of operation at low power consumption. The new i-ToF sensor is ideal for consumer smartphones, service robots, drones, and a variety of Internet of Things devices.

     IRS2975C uses HQVGA resolution, 240 x 180 pixels, and achieves 1/6" image circle leading 18 mm2 chip. It provides 10 µm of highly sensitive pixels with background illumination suppression (SBI) technology and supports highly integrated systems with low operating power consumption. The imager supports a 2.8V power supply and provides a unique laser human eye safety feature mechanism, providing a high degree of flexibility for customizing use cases and power output.

     Infineon's latest pixel technology has excellent demodulation efficiency due to the inclusion of advanced 3D field engineering. And with embedded optical reflectors, quantum efficiency (QE) can be improved to a level hitherto only achieved by back-lit (BSI) sensors, while maintaining the cost advantage of front-lit (FSI) sensors. Paired with the IRS9102C VCSEL drive, the IRS2975C can save the material cost of the camera module and provide differentiated features for mass-produced smart phones.
