Infineon AURIX and TRAVEO microcontrollers extend support for IEC 61508 hardware and software
Industrial control systems must maintain the lowest error rate even in harsh environments, so safe and reliable system development is critical. The AURIX™ TC3x and TRAVEO™ T2G microcontroller product families from Infineon Technologies meet these requirements with widely integrated hardware functional security and network security features. Both product families have expanded support for IEC 61508 hardware and software technical specifications, including all documentation required for functional safety certification. In addition, Infineon AUTOSAR microcontroller MCAL underlying driver software products also support IEC 61508.
In addition to its success in the mobility market, Infineon AUTOSAR MCAL is now used to implement many other functional safety applications, including indoor applications such as medical devices, industrial drives, programmable logic controllers (PLCS), robotics, elevators or machinery.
Ralf Koedel, Vice President, Microcontroller Product Line, Infineon Technologies, said: "With the AUTOSAR standard being used beyond automotive applications, we can now offer our customers AUTOSAR MCAL software files that support the IEC 61508 standard. Since industrial control systems must maintain the lowest error rate in harsh environments, the requirements for such systems have become more stringent. "With the extension of AURIX and TRAVEO family support to the IEC 61508 standard, developers can design safety-critical applications with a range of proven microcontrollers and reference existing diagnostic analysis documents (FMEDA and safety manuals)."
The Failure Mode Impact and Failure Mode Impact and Diagnostic Analysis (FMEDA) file creates a static snapshot showing the IEC61508 failure rate and the safety metrics calculated at the MCU and basic function level. By expanding support for AURIX TC3x and TRAVEO T2G microcontrollers from ISO26262 to IEC61508, developers can raise the level of safety for industrial applications to levels SIL-1-3. In addition, semiconductor technology company Infineon has established a strong ecosystem of design partners, clearing the way for safety-critical designs at the SIL-4 level and providing reliable support for functional safety certification.
