Littelfuse, Inc. has unveiled the newest eFuse Protection IC lineup member, the LS0502SCD33S. This novel development presents the Single Cell Super Capacitor Protection IC, tailored explicitly for charging backup power sources under extreme conditions, setting a new benchmark in the sector.

     Littelfuse Corporation has introduced its latest eFuse Protection IC family, the LS0502SCD33S. This novel development proposes a single-cell ultracapacitor protection IC specifically tailored for backup power charging under extreme conditions, setting a new benchmark in the field.

     The IC is a comprehensive backup storage capacitor system solution that includes input overvoltage, overcurrent protection, reverse blocking switches, and ultracapacitor charge control circuits. It provides balanced charging for a dual-cell supercapacitor configuration, draws operations at a minimum of 2.5μA after the storage component is fully charged, and signals that the input power is disconnected, enabling the main system to react quickly.

     Backup power is critical in many situations, but the limited temperature resistance of lithium-ion batteries often limits their application. To this end, the company has designed the LS0502SCD33S, which uses supercapacitor technology to provide a solution that performs well over a wide temperature range and delivers superior power/energy density. This single-cell approach ensures a reliable and compact backup option.

     An outstanding feature of the IC is its proficiency in effortlessly managing high operating voltages (above 3V), eliminating the need for complex power management arrangements. It prevents potential system damage through integrated input overvoltage and current protection mechanisms. It provides an adaptable, all-in-one, space-saving solution for storing capacitors or capacitor banks. In addition, it includes an ideal diode for reverse blocking to maintain performance and efficiency when the input voltage drops.

     The IC is ideal for a variety of SuperCap applications, such as automotive tachographs, smart meters, iot devices, industrial handhelds, and portable electronic devices with removable batteries.

     "With the LS0502SCD33S single-core ultracapacitor eFuse, we offer electronics developers a supercapacitor charge protection IC solution integrated into a single component," commented Bernie Hsieh, assistant product Manager for Littelfuse's Protected Semiconductors Division. "The expansion of the eFuse Protection ic family expands our product range to include protection for portable battery-powered devices, positioning Littelfuse at the forefront of the rapidly evolving SuperCap management and protection market."

     The IC stands out by supporting a wide range of protection features, such as overcurrent protection (OCP) and overvoltage protection (OVP), while also saving energy and facilitating automatic primary/standby switching.

     In addition to its protective capabilities, integrated circuits offer many advantages. It improves reliability, prolongs service life and helps manufacturers reduce maintenance costs. In addition, thanks to its compact design, it extends battery durability and minimizes the size of the final product, which is an essential feature of devices that require long standby times.
