Diodes Step-down converters increase portable product efficiency
Diodes Incorporated's new micro step-down DC-DC converter, the AP3403, typically achieves higher than 95% efficiency, extending battery life for smartphones and other low-voltage portable products. This synchronous pulse width modulation converter drives loads up to 600mA and maintains high efficiency by configuring external voltage dividers, capacitors and inductors elements.
To support micro lithium-ion battery operation, the new buck converter offers input voltage ranges as low as 2.7V to 5V with only 34µA of no-load current. The device provides superior linear and load regulation and uses current mode control to provide the fastest transient response and period-by-cycle current limitation.
The AP3403 operates at a fixed 2MHz that helps reduce ripple, thus reducing the size of external circuit elements and saving costs. The device uses an ultra-compact U-DFN1616 package with efficient heat dissipation, further reducing the overall circuit footprint. The new converter offers an output voltage range from 0.7V to 5.5V, making it easy to meet product configuration requirements. The device has a series of complete functions such as undervoltage lock, overtemperature protection, automatic recovery mode short-circuit protection and soft start, which effectively maintain the integrity of the system.
