Diodes Low cost pulse width modulation controller optimizes fast charging applications
Diodes Incorporated's new Current mode Pulse Width modulation (PWM) controller, the AP3127/H, is optimized for consumer portable products such as smartphone chargers and power adapters for notebook computers, providing a high performance, low cost solution. Other applications in the consumer electronics and communications markets include: set-top boxes, game consoles, modems, and networking equipment.
Under normal operation, the PWM switching frequency of the AP3127 and AP3127H controllers is fixed internally at 65kHz and 100kHz respectively. However, at medium loads the device will enter an energy saving mode and reduce the switching frequency with frequency rewinding to improve system efficiency. However, the minimum switching frequency is maintained at 20kHz to ensure that any audible noise is eliminated. Under no-load or light-load conditions, these ics minimize standby power through a surge mode, and their built-in frequency jitter function reduces the emission of electromagnetic interference.
In addition to providing superior power control with high average efficiency compared to competitors using the same pins, the AP3127/H includes a comprehensive set of protection features to ensure stable, powerful and reliable operation. This covers a variety of overload and error conditions, such as overcurrent, secondary side overvoltage (SOVP), internal overtemperature (OTP), and is equipped with secondary side undervoltage protection (SUVP) to protect the power supply in the event of a short circuit in the output cable.
