Cypress has introduced a Bluetooth low-power module with a transmission range of 400 meters and a Bluetooth 4.2 module

Cypress Semiconductor has introduced a new Bluetooth Low Energy module solution that increases the transmission range of Bluetooth to 400 meters, eight times the range of existing Bluetooth solutions. The longer transmission range of the new EZ-BLE PSoC XT/XR module helps enable a wider range of Bluetooth applications in home automation, industry and smart cities.

     Cypress Semiconductor has introduced a new Bluetooth Low Energy module solution that increases the transmission range of Bluetooth to 400 meters, eight times the range of existing Bluetooth solutions. The extended transmission range of the new EZ-BLE PSoC XT/XR module helps enable a wider range of Bluetooth applications in home automation, industry and smart cities. Parking meters, for example, can be collected via a smartphone Bluetooth connection and reported to a hub covering the city block.

     The new EZ-BLE PSoC XT/XR CYBLE-224110-00 module is 32-pin and compact in size, measuring only 9.5-mm X 14.5-mm. The module is the first in the industry to support an extended temperature range of -40˚C to +105˚C, enabling stable operation in outdoor and industrial environments. In addition, Cypress's new EZ-BLE™ PRoC CYBLE-222014-01 module is the first in the industry to simultaneously support all three iot features of the Bluetooth 4.2 standard ---- data length extension, privacy protection and increased security. The module is compatible with Cypress's 128/256KB flash Bluetooth 4.1 module slot.

     Cypress also demonstrated an implementation of a lighting application during the Bluetooth World Conference that is in line with the latest proposal from the Bluetooth Smart Mesh Working Group. Mesh networks allow devices to exchange data with multiple neighboring devices - a critical capability for many iot applications - thereby extending Bluetooth transmission distances.

     Dave Solda, Senior Director of Cypress's Modules Division, said: "At Bluetooth World, Cypress demonstrated our ability to push the limits of Bluetooth range and performance, and to help customers take full advantage of industry standards such as Bluetooth 4.2. "By combining the long-range transmission EZ-BLE PSoC XT/XR module with the upcoming Bluetooth mesh networking solution, customers are able to develop innovative products that cost-effectively communicate with billions of Bluetooth-enabled mobile devices and Bluetooth Wide area networks simultaneously."

     Cypress's Bluetooth low-power modules offer unmatched ease of use for embedded wireless connectivity, combined with the high integration and programmability of PSoC 4 BLE programmable system-on-chip or PRoC BLE programmable RF solutions. The module incorporates an ARM® Cortex-M0 core, Cypress's industry-leading CapSense® capacitive sensing technology, two crystal oscillators, an onboard antenna, a metal shield and passive components.

     Cypress integrates the Bluetooth Low Power protocol stack and profile into a royalty-free, GUI-based BLE component that designers can drag and drop into their designs using Cypress's PSoC Creator™ IDE, a free embedded IC represented by an icon. Application details of Cypress BLE components built into PSoC Creator, including all supported BLE protocol version application instances and hundreds of mixed-signal system design application instances. PSoC Creator allows designers to complete system design with a simple tool, which accelerates time to market. Cypress offers several development kits to support the design process.
