Broadcom Introduces New HD Set-top Box System-on-chip (HD STB SoC)

Broadcom announced the launch of a new HD set-top box System-on-a-chip (HD STB SoC) for the China Free (FTA) satellite market. With the rapid growth in the promotion of high-definition programming in China, Broadcom's BCM7228 chip can support satellite TV operators to promote more advanced services and improve high-definition satellite broadcast transmission capabilities by integrating broadcast advanced Video codec (AVS+) decompression technology.

The Broadcom BCM7228 system-on-chip (SoC) complies with the compression standards of China's State Administration of Radio, Film and Television (SARFT). In addition, the chip provides the most advanced Conditional access (CA) and Digital rights Management (DRM) security features to protect the rights of content providers. At the China International Radio and Television Information Network (CCBN) exhibition this week, Broadcom will showcase the BCM7228 HD set-top Box System-on-chip (BCM7228 HD STB SoC).

Dan Marotta, executive vice president and general manager of Broadcom's Broadband and Wireless Connectivity business unit, said: "Broadcom has developed customized set-top box technology for China to help operators improve the HD satellite TV service experience for the majority of users at the lowest cost. Our latest chip solution is highly secure and will facilitate the development of the Chinese satellite TV market from SD to HD broadcasting, which is expected to show steady growth over the next five years."
