Bourns' new high-current high-power Transient Voltage Suppressor (PTVS) enhances the performance of high-power DC clamping applications
Bourns, the world's leading manufacturer of electronic components, announced the launch of a new high-current, high-power transient voltage suppressors (PTVS) that provide superior overvoltage protection. Bourns' latest PTVS-M series is specifically designed for the harsh surge requirements of high power DC applications, especially exposed and harsh environment units.
The Bourns PTVS-M product family uses advanced silicon process technology to enhance superior surge performance characteristics, providing better stability and reliability when experiencing lower clamping voltages compared to metal oxide rheostat technology (MOVs) during surges.
The Bourns PTVS-M model is packaged in SMD, and the PTVS diode is the only through-hole component of the printed brush board, which is designed to eliminate additional manufacturing steps for this product, thereby simplifying assembly and reducing costs. In addition, the innovative design of the 'cladding' surface-weld package makes it the best choice for automatic selection, placement, assembly, and backwelding. These two-way TVS units have 66V and 76V temporary overvoltages and are rated for peak pulse current from 3kA to 10kA.
Current high-power DC applications, such as AC/DC power supplies used in wireless base stations and remote telemetry stations, are subject to strict surge standards, such as IEC 61000-4-5. Bourns' latest PTVS-M series provides strong protection in the event of a surge voltage burst, assisting designers to meet this standard by limiting overvoltage to a specified low clamp current.
