Analog Devices introduces low power analog microcontrollers
Analog Devices introduces the ADuCM360, a fully integrated 4 kSPS, 24-bit data acquisition system-on-chip that incorporates a dual-core, high-performance, multi-channel sigma-δ ADC, a 32-bit ARM CortexTM M3 MCU, and Flash/EE memory. The device operates at 1 mA and is designed to interface directly with 4 to 20 mA external loop powered precision sensors in industrial process control. The ADuCM360's low sleep current further enhances its usefulness in battery-powered applications.
The core of the ADuCM360 microcontroller is a low-power 32-bit ARM reduced instruction set machine that integrates a flexible 11-channel DMA (direct memory access) controller that supports wired (SPI, UART, I²C) communication peripherals. In addition, 128k bytes of non-volatile Flash/EE and 8k bytes of SRAM are also integrated on the chip.
The ADuCM360 analog subsystem consists of two ADCs connected to a flexible input multiplexer with up to 11 built-in input channels, each with a programmable gain amplifier. Both converters can operate in either fully differential or single-ended mode. The ADuCM360 is ideal for applications that require a second ADC on the sensor for temperature compensation, or dual sensor applications. The ADuCM361 will be available in August and contains all the features of the ADuCM360, but only one ADC.
Leo McHugh, Director of Analog Devices' Precision ADC Division, said: "The ADuCM360 consumes only 1 mA at full power, and is effective in both the ADC and programmable gain amplifier, making it ideal for 4 to 20 mA loop-powered systems. The ADuCM360/361 offers the highest precision analog conversion in the industry and more power per mW than any other analog microcontrol solution, making it ideal for industrial smart sensors."
