Analog Devices introduces a current mode, 2MHz boost DC/DC converter

     Analog Devices announced the LT8364 of Power byLinearM, a current-mode, 2MHz boost DC/DC converter with an internal 4A, 60V switch. The LT8364 operates in the 2.8V to 60V input voltage range and is suitable for applications using a variety of input sources, such as battery packs with single lithium-ion cells and multiple cells, automotive inputs, telecommunications power supplies, and industrial power rails.

     The LT8364 can be configured as a boost, SEPIC or negative output converter. The switching frequency can be set between 300kHz and 2MHz, allowing designers to minimize the size of external components and avoid critical frequency bands (e.g., AM radio). In addition, the device provides efficiency of more than 90% when performing switching operations at 2MHz. BurstMode operation reduces the static current to only 9uA while keeping the output ripple below 15mVP-P. The combination of a small 4mmx3mmDFN package or a high-voltage MOP-16E package with slim external components ensures a highly compact board area and minimizes solution costs.

     The LT8364's 100mΩ power switch offers greater than 95% efficiency. In addition, it provides a spread spectrum frequency modulation function to minimize EMI problems. A single feedback pin is responsible for setting the output voltage (whether the output is positive or negative), thereby minimizing the number of pins. Other features of the device include external synchronization, programmable undervoltage latching (UVLO), frequency reentry, and programmable soft start.

     The LT8364EDE comes in a 4mmx3mm DFN-12 package, while the LT8364EMSE comes in a high-voltage MOP-16E package (four pins are removed to provide high-voltage pitch). Also available are industrial temperature grade (-40°C to 125°C) versions (LT8364IDE and LT8364IMSE) and high temperature grade (-40°C to 150°C) versions (LT8364HDE and LT8364HMSE).
