Allegro MicroSystems announces new automotive multioutput PMIC with step-down or step-down pre-regulators
Allegro MicroSystems has released a new power management IC(PMIC), the A4413, which can be configured as a step-down or step-down preregulator to efficiently convert automotive battery voltage to a highly regulated intermediate voltage with complete control, diagnostic and protection functions. Outputs include 5V for remote sensors (V5P), high voltage protected linear regulators (LDO) up to 75mA, and adjustable synchronous step-down regulators (ADJ) up to 800mA from 0.8 to 3.3V. The A4413 device has been specifically designed to power microprocessors at high temperatures, making it ideal for under hood and other automotive applications.
The A4413 can be turned on with logic level (ENB) or high voltage (ENBAT) inputs, and its diagnostic outputs include a power-on reset output (NPOR) with a 2ms rise delay to monitor synchronous step-down, a PowerOK output (POK5V) to monitor 5V LDO, and a PowerOK output (POK5V) to monitor synchronous step-down. And an ENBAT status output (ENBATS). The A4413's dual bandgap (one for voltage regulation and one for fault detection) improves its long-term reliability.
The A4413 device includes a pulse width Window Watchdog (PWWD) timer that can be programmed to detect a pulse width of 1 to 2ms (WDADJ). This watchdog timer has activation delay, which can be adjusted according to the pulse width setting to match the startup of the processor. By using the WDTOL pin, the watchdog window tolerance can be set to ±8%, ±13%, or ±18%. The Watchdog timer also has a low-level active on pin (WDENn) for easy initial factory programming or field re-flash programming.
Protection features of the A4413 device include undervoltage and overvoltage locking for both output power rails, and the V5P LDO provides foldback overcurrent protection in the event of an output short. In addition, the V5P output can be protected from the event of short circuit to the battery. Both switching regulators also include pulse-by-pulse current limit, belch mode short-circuit protection, LX short-circuit protection, asynchronous diode loss protection (VREG only), and overheat shut-off (TSD) protection.
