Vishay introduces new Power Metal Strip resistors with advanced construction with extremely low resistance values
Vishay Intertechnology has announced the release of a new surface mount Power Metal Strip resistor, the WSHM2818, with a power of 7W, an extremely low resistance of 1mΩ, and a small 2818 form factor.
The WSHM2818 features an advanced construction that combines better thermal management with a low TCR(< 20ppm/℃) solid Metal nickel-chromium or mangano-copper resistance core, in the 2818 shape size to achieve a high Power resistance with excellent electrical characteristics and good performance of the Power Metal Strip structure, such as 1000 hours load life stability rate, to less than ±1% of the short-term overload is very good resistance. The device has a high power to placeholder size ratio, allowing designers to replace multiple devices with these resistors with similar power of larger resistors and lower power, thereby saving board space and developing smaller end products.
The resistors are AEC-Q200 certified for all types of precision current detection, voltage division, and high power pulse load applications such as switching regulators, current detectors, power supplies, and power amplifiers in automotive electronic controls such as engines, injectors, brushless DC motors, anti-lock systems, air conditioners, and battery management controls.
The WSHM2818 is also suitable for industrial controls, including downhole test/measurement equipment for oil/gas drilling, inverter control for HVAC systems, DC/DC converters for motor drives and servers, VRM for computers, and safety and management of lithium-ion batteries.
Like all Power Metal Strip resistors, these devices introduced today feature an all-welded construction, resulting in excellent electrical performance. The exclusive machining technology enables very low resistance values from 1mΩ to 100mΩ and tight tolerances of ±1.0%. The WSHM2818 features low inductance of less than 5nH, excellent frequency response of 50MHz, and low thermal EMF(< 3μV/℃), the operating temperature from -65℃ to +170℃. Devices comply with RoHS and Vishay green standards and are halogen-free.
