Vishay has introduced a new line of automotive grade vPolyTan™ surface mount polymer tantalum molded chip capacitors

     Vishay Intertechnology has announced the launch of a new line of automotive grade vPolyTan™ surface mount polymer tantalum molded chip capacitors - the T51 series. The series of capacitors are lead-free (Pb) terminating, comply with RoHS and Vishay green standards, and are halogen-free. The AEC-Q200 certified Vishay Polytech T51 series capacitors improve performance under high temperature and humidity conditions, reduce equivalent series resistance (ESR) and voltage derating, and provide a benign failure mode with higher volume efficiency than conventional tantalum capacitors.

     The device is available in two small package versions, D (EIA 7343-31) and V (EIA 7343-20), with capacities ranging from 6.8µF to 330µF at rated voltages of 2.5V to 35 V, with a capacity tolerance of 20%. The capacitor uses a highly conductive polymer cathode system, and the ultra-low ESR decreases from 120 mW to 40 mW at +25 °C. In addition, these technical advantages make the technology superior to multilayer ceramic chip capacitors (MLCCS) and aluminum capacitors in comparable capacity ranges

     The T51 series devices are firmly designed and suitable for all kinds of harsh environments. The operating temperature can reach +125 °C, and the operating voltage should be reduced when the temperature exceeds +105 °C. The high temperature service life can reach 2000 hours. Capacitors with ripple currents up to 2.37 A are ideal for decoupling, smoothing, and filtering capacitors from switching power and point of load (POL) power supplies for advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), infotainment systems, and other on-board electronic systems.
