The latest high power current sensors from Allegro MicroSystems

Allegro MicroSystems has introduced its latest high-power current sensor, the ACS37220, with the initial release of the industry's smallest lead-lead magnetic current sensor, the ACS37041. Compared to discrete shunt resistors and op-amP-based current sensing solutions, its latest solutions offer increased efficiency and reliability, system protection and a smaller BoM.
Current shunt solutions require multiple components, take up considerable board space, and often require additional PCB layers and heat sinks to maintain acceptable thermal performance. These factors inevitably increase weight, size and design complexity, often resulting in an increase in cost and production time.
The company's new sensors address current industry challenges by providing a smaller footprint, higher efficiency, and simpler integration. The ACS37220 is designed to replace high-power sensing resistors and can be used in high-current monitoring applications up to 200A. The ACS37041 offers a high level of integration in a compact SOT23-W package and is ideal for a wide range of current sensing applications up to 30A.

The company's new current sensor integrates the functions of shunt resistors, shunt amplifiers and other passive components into a single package. The compact design and improved efficiency compared to conventional shunt make it an ideal low-voltage (<100V) sensor, offering lower heat dissipation, simplified design and innovative packaging.
