Texas Instruments introduces the first wireless microcontroller platform to enable battery-free Internet of Things (IoT) connectivity
Texas Instruments announced the launch of its new SimpleLink ultra-low power wireless microcontroller (MCU) platform, which enables battery-free operation with energy harvesting or years of continuous operation powered only by a button battery. With this industry-first technology, users have the flexibility to develop products that support multiple wireless connectivity standards with a single chip and identical RF design. The SimpleLink ultra-Low Power platform supports Bluetooth low energy, ZigBee, 6LoWPAN, Sub-1 GHz, ZigBee RF4CE™ and all modes up to 5Mbps. The new platform expands TI's SimpleLink portfolio to provide the industry's broadest, lowest-energy and easiest-to-use wireless connectivity for the Internet of Things (IoT).
To extend TI's leadership in low-power MCUS, the SimpleLink ultra-low Power platform offers the highest level of integration, integrating ARM® Cortex-M3 MCUS, flash /RAM, analog-to-digital converters, peripherals, sensor controllers, and robust built-in security on a chip. The platform also enables the simplest of designs with a ready-to-use protocol stack, TI RTOS, Code Composer Studio™ integrated development environment (IDE), development tools, online training, and E2E™ community support. With reference designs, users require minimal RF knowledge to simplify development and layout. In addition, through the IoT cloud ecosystem, TI can help users connect to the cloud more easily.
The first members of SimpleLink's ultra-low power wireless MCU platform are the CC2640 for Bluetooth Smart and the CC2630 for 6LoWPAN and ZigBee. For more flexibility, users can also adopt CC2650 wireless MCUS that support multiple 2.4GHz technologies such as Bluetooth Smart, 6LoWPAN, Zigbee and RF4CE. By taking full advantage of multi-standard support, users can keep their designs up to date with future trends and also configure the chosen technology at field installation.
